not sure if it was a chingchong

I passed by some guys and one of them said, "Ah, herro." Is that a chingchong? It sort of implies the same thing as saying ching chong to someone, i.e. makes fun of how the stereotypical Asian person sounds.

I did feel insulted by it in the moment, and although I mostly ignore that stuff, I told the guy, "Dude, that's f***ed up," which only made the group of them roar with laughter. This was in Auckland, New Zealand, and they're probably not used to hearing an American accent coming from an ethnic person. I did see a Chinese-New Zealander comedian on TV there, though.
